What is Engineered Wood Siding?

Engineered wood siding is a relatively recent siding material that is the result of modern technological innovation. For centuries, wood was one of the only options when it came to siding a home, but it would always rot without regular maintenance, and was susceptible to insect damage. Vinyl eliminated the high maintenance demands of wood, but the bland appearance and its tendency to fade, crack and warp turned off many homeowners.

The LP® CanExel® Process

With the introduction of LP® CanExel® prefinished wood siding, a brand with a legendary reputation for delivering a one-of-a-kind appearance and outstanding durability was born.  The siding starts as wood fiber combined with a resin binder for strength and special water-resistant waxes for enhanced durability in Canadian environments. Next comes a pressing process which creates the authentic textured look of real cedar on LP® CanExel® products. This step utilizes a wide variation of patterns and designs for an authentic wood grain texture. The final step in the CanExel finishing process adds multiple coats of heat-cured paint topped with a sealer.
