LP CanExel engineered wood siding looks like sawn cedar siding

A Wood-Grain Look Creates Authentic Curb Appeal

For more than 40 years, Canadians have trusted LP® CanExel® prefinished siding to improve, protect and enhance their homes. Previously, we explored the beautiful finish that is one of the signature trademarks of CanExel siding. Now let’s take a look at the unique texture that gives it the look of solid sawn cedar siding.

Is It Traditional Sawn Cedar Siding or LP® CanExel®?

An authentic wood-grain texture is one of the most important characteristics of LP CanExel engineered wood siding. The process starts with wood fiber that is combined with a resin binder to add strength, and water-resistant waxes that provide better durability in the harsh Canadian environment. With this advanced formulation of ingredients, CanExel siding provides excellent resistance to moisture and rot.

The next step is a pressing process which creates deep wood-grain texture on each piece of LP CanExel. Unlike other siding products where the same shallow patterns are repeated over and over, our process includes a wide variation of designs and patterns for a true wood-grain finish. In fact, it can be difficult to tell LP CanExel siding from solid sawn cedar lap siding. Three distinctive siding profiles are available so you can find the style that matches your home.

The last step in the CanExel finishing process adds multiple coats of advanced, industrial-strength Valspar® paint which are heat-cured and sealed with a clear protectant to ensure long-lasting durability and color. The finished product is backed by a 25-year substrate warranty and a 15-year finish warranty.
